Tribute to Elvis Presley at the first night of Ravenna Jazz on Friday 3 May in Alighieri

Friday 3 May at 9pm at the Alighieri Theatre on the first evening of the year Ravenna Jazz the Italian Jazz Orchestra will perform under the direction of the conductor Fabio Petrettiwith a pianist Rita Marcotulli and a singer John DeLeo as exceptional guest soloists. The original production they design, “Blue Suede Shoes”is a tribute to the music of Elvis Presley again in a jazz-symphonic form taken over by an Italian jazz orchestra directed by Fabio Petretti.

Behind the performers, in the background of the stage, they will flow archival images, film clips, concerts, television specials and interviews with Elviscreating a moving scenography.

Giuseppe Zanca, Massimo Morganti, Marco Postacchini and Petretti sign the arrangements for a group of about twenty instrumentalists, while special guests are pianist Rita Marcotulli and singer John De Leo, whose vocal versatility and strong personality are an excellent calling card. compared to an icon like Presley.

John DeLeo there are very few others like him on the Italian singing scene; rather, he can be considered an heir to the vocal experiments of Demetrius Stratos or Cathy Berberian. This uniqueness has always been evident in his career, marked not only by musical collaborations with Stewart Copeland, Uri Caine, Louis Andriessen, Trilok Gurtu, Stefano Benni, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Carlo Lucarelli, Franco Battiato, Ivano Fossati, Alessandro Bergonzoni and many others.

Rita Marcotulli belongs to the most characteristic personalities of Italian jazz from the 80s of the 20th century until today. Musically trained in the lively Rome jazz scene of the early 1980s, Marcotulli initially distinguished herself as an outstanding mainstream pianist, in this role she prided herself on working with Chet Baker, Steve Grossman, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovan, Sal Nistic, Dewey Redman to great effect. , Billy Cobham, Peter Erskine, Enrico Rava. Then she progressively oriented herself towards more personal and, to use a term that has entered jazz musicology today, towards European music, expanding the list of her collaborations (Palle Danielsson, Carlo Rizzo, Maria Pia De Vito, Michel Benita, Andy Sheppard…) and lead groups with strong planning.
